Abilene ISD is pleased to announce that Melissa Speegle has been selected as the next principal of Alcorta Elementary School. Speegle brings 20 years of experience in elementary education to AISD and currently serves as an elementary assistant principal in Aubrey ISD.
“I am excited to welcome Melissa Speegle to Abilene ISD,” Superintendent Dr. John Kuhn said. “Melissa has a strong track record of achieving positive student outcomes and bringing diverse school communities together to do what is best for kids. I look forward to supporting her as she builds on the strong culture of positivity and collaboration at Alcorta Elementary.”
Speegle began her career as a professional educator in 2005. She taught kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grades in Aubrey ISD before being promoted to serve as elementary language arts and reading coordinator. In 2017, she started her campus leadership journey as an assistant principal for Little Elm ISD, later serving in that same role for Decatur ISD until she became an elementary school principal for Paradise ISD in 2020.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead and serve the Alcorta community,” Speegle said. “Alcorta has a proud tradition of academic excellence and a strong sense of community. I look forward to working collaboratively with our dedicated teachers and staff, supportive families, and most importantly, our amazing students.”
Speegle earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. She replaces outgoing Alcorta principal Michele Josselet, who was recently named principal of Clack Middle School.
